COLIN EDMONDSON'S EXCELLENT BOOKLET
'GOING IT ALONE'
A BOATERS GUIDE TO WORKING A NARROW BOAT SINGLE HANDED ON NARROW AND BROAD WATERWAYS.
28 pages of closely packed information, with a few explanatory diagrams. Produced afloat.
I was asked so often, 'How on earth do you manage to work a boat on your own', that I sat down and wrote this little booklet to save giving the same answers over and over again!
Written as a result of many years practical experience, learning from my own mistakes as well as those of others. Being of a logical mind I try to let the boat do as much of the work as possible and by thinking ahead try to be in the right place at the right time so as to reduce the amount of effort needed to a minimum.
Advice is given on safety (as there is no one else to help you if you get it wrong), preparation, clothing, useful extra equipment, ropework, including use of the centre rope and swinging the rope under bridges, leaving and coming into the bank and mooring, uphill and downhill in narrow and broad locks, lift and swing bridges, (both manual and electric). Recently revised with an extra four pages, including managing the locks on the River Thames. This booklet also contains many useful hints and tips for the boater working with a crew.
£4.00 plus £0.70 P&P to the UK each booklet
